What is Lolita Fashion?
Lolita Fashion, sometimes called EGL Fashion in English, emerged in Japan in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Inspired by Victorian and Rococo fashion, magical girls and shoujo manga heroines, and a few alternative record labels, Lolita fashion has gained an international following since the late-1990s. In 2006, the New York City Lolita community was formed on LiveJournal.com and we've been active ever since! Most months we host 1-3 events ranging from fancy tea services, brunches or café meetups, a picnic, or a trip to a local museum or art gallery.
It can be intimidating to get into Lolita Fashion! In addition to the local links here (our Discord, FB, and the NYC J-fashion Market), please check out Lolibrary and LaceMarket. Lolibrary is a volunteer-run database documenting Lolita releases, and LaceMarket is a moderated secondhand sales platform catering to overseas communities.
